FINLANDIA 2017 is the largest and most important international philatelic event in Europe on 24th – 28th May 2017 at Tampere. The main venue is Tampere Hall, a multi-purpose hall for concerts and exhibitions. There’s collections from 42 different countries. FINLANDIA 2017 brings also rarities of Queen Elisabeth II to Tampere with its partner Finnish Postal Museum, which is the second event place situated at the Museum Centre Vapriikki.
FINLANDIA 2017 celebrates the centenary of Finland's Independence. It has been granted the official status in the “Finland 100” program. Independence is the leading theme of the exhibition and it is visible in the se-lection of many high valued invited exhibits and program. The Patron of the exhibition is the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö.
Versatile program
Every exhibition day has its own theme: Agathon Fabergé, Finland 100, City of Tampere, Moomins and Fami-lies, Postal Museum and Postcrossing. The philatelic and non-philatelic event program is versatile including seminars, interviews and exhibit presentations on the Event stage. For children, students and families there’s a functional exhibition the Remarkable Adventure. It evokes interest in stamps by making and participating.
Classes
In the competitive classes, all the official classes except Astrophilately and Maximaphilately are included. Pic-ture Post Cards are included as a competitive class, for the first time at the FEPA level.
In addition to the competitive classes, FINLANDIA 2017 comprises many interesting and unique exhibits. The most valuable item in Finnish philately from the famous Gustaf Douglas’ collection is displayed at Tampere Hall. Finnish Postal Museum exhibits Queen Elizabeth II’s the Royal Philatelic Collection. This magnificent col-lection includes the first stamps issued in the world. The Bank of Finland is providing its exhibit of banknote proofs and specimens for the first time in public display.
FINLANDIA 2017 has FEPA patronage and FIP recognition. The number of participating countries is 42, includ-ing most of the FEPA member countries, Australia and United States. The grand exhibition displays 416 collec-tions and 65 pieces in the Philatelic literature class. The total number of frames is 2248.
