Finnish company Merivaara Corp. will provide operating room image management systems and their maintenance services to the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS). The recently signed contract is a framework agreement, under which HUS can place orders for services and solutions as required. The first delivery will be made to Meilahti Tower Hospital, which is part of the Helsinki University Central Hospital (HUCH). The system will be installed in Meilahti’s hybrid operating room within this year, with equipment installation scheduled for November and preliminary runs for December. The system will then be gradually installed in the other operating rooms of Meilahti Tower Hospital in 2014 and 2015.
The OpenOR is an easy-to-use image management system based on open architecture. It can be customised to suit the needs of each operating room and integrated with the hospital’s existing ICT systems. It allows the surgical team to easily perform tasks such as the managing, editing and recording of images and video material from various different sources via a touch-screen user interface, as well as provide remote consultation and training. Developed in Finland, OpenOR is part of Merivaara’s INTEGRA operating room integration solution.
Merivaara’s solution met the requirements and was deemed to be the most economically advantageous of all the tenders received by HUS. In a clinical test carried out before the tender was approved, it was found that video images transmitted via the image transfer system showed no delay or difference in quality compared to the video images on the endoscopy equipment’s own display.
