German game production house, Remote control productions (RCP), is expanding its operations outside the German-speaking world and establishing a subsidiary in Finland. Kotka-Hamina regional development company Cursor Oy and RCP have agreed to establish a joint venture in Kotka, Finland. The innovation environment and technology know-how in Finland are the cornerstones, which make the country a pioneer in the game industry.
In Germany, RCP coordinates one of the most significant game developer networks in the industry, providing services for gaming companies in the areas of business development, sales and marketing and publishing. Established in 2005, the RCP family has a staff of more than 130 experts and the company's headquarters are located in Munich. The company co-operates with companies such as Chillingo, Deep Silver, Rovio and Ravensburger Digital, and has been involved, among other things, in the making of Angry Birds Epic, which has been downloaded more than 50 million times.
Remote Control Productions Finland will start operations in Kotka in late 2015. The unit will work closely with the RCP's German headquarters, Cursor and Playa Game Industry Hub, a game developer community operated by Cursor. The aim of the joint venture is to create a commercial game business accelerator and bring RCP's expertise within reach of game companies in Finland. In the first phase in 2016, RCP Finland is seeking cooperation with 2-3 game start-ups, in which RCP will invest its own skills and labour in return for a partial ownership in the start-ups.
RCP and Cursor signed an agreement on 19th May 2015 to establish the joint venture. Cursor will have a minority share of 25% in RCP Finland, which will be received in return for labour.
