SAMOK is a national, politically independent organisation for students at universities of applied sciences (UAS). The organisation is led by students and works to promot students’ interests. SAMOK also offers services to our member student unions and ensures that the students’ voices are heard by the state administration and other relevant stakeholders. We also arrange for services and discounts for students. A total of approximately 59 000 students are members of the student unions that are members of SAMOK, however, SAMOK speaks for close to 140 000 UAS students all in all.

The Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK held its 18th ordinary General Assembly on 22–23 November 2013 at Hotel Haaga in Helsinki.
The newly elected 2014 Chair of SAMOK is Toni Asikainen, 26, Member of the Executive Committee of SAMOK for 2013. Previously he has also held the position of the Chairperson of the Student Union of the HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences.
“The year I've spent at SAMOK has offered me a vantage point on working for students. The biggest challenges for next year, I believe, will be bringing the UAS reform into conclusion and making sure that the student voice is heard and reflected upon in the political parties preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Over the next year SAMOK should also develop into a stronger and more interactive organization. I am looking forward to the future tasks and working with the new EC!” Asikainen says.
The General Assembly elected Mikkel Näkkäläjärvi (the Student Union of the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences) as Vice Chairperson of SAMOK. The other SAMOK Executive Committee members for 2014 are:
Matti Leppälehto (Student Union of the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences)
Noora Nousiainen (Student Union of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences)
Joonas Peltonen (Student Union of the Karelia University of Applied Sciences)
Anniina Sippola (The Student Union of HAMK University of Applied Sciences)
Ida Talvinen (Student Union of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences)
