Heureka’s Director Persson appointed as Honorary Member of The European Network of Science Centres and Museums

The Director of Science Centre Heureka, professor Per-Edvin Persson has been appointed as an Honorary Member of The European Network of Science Centres and Museums ECSITE. The Honorary Membership was announced at the Ecsite Annual Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden on 6 June, 2013.

Persson has been the Director of Heureka since 1991. Before that he worked as Heureka’s Director of Science between 1987-1991. Over the years he has held numerous positions of trust in the science centre field. He was the President of the Nordic Science Centre Association between 1987-1991, the President of the European Science Centre network ECSITE (Brussels) between 1997-1998 and the President of the international branch organisation Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), based in Washington, D.C., between 2004-2005. He served on the ECSITE Board 1991-2001, and again in 2007-2013. He served on the ASTC Board in 1993-2007. Persson initiated the tradition of Science Centre World Congresses and served as Chairman of the First Science Centre World Congress in Finland in 1996.

Professor Persson retires on 1 September, 2013. Under his leadership, Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre has developed into a science centre of international renown. Heureka is well-known for its innovative and highly interactive science exhibitions that have circulated in 25 countries on four continents and have been seen by more than 22 million visitors during 1989-2012. Heureka is one of Finland’s top attractions, with a total of approximately 300,000 visitors annually.
