The public procurement for the manufacturing and installation of the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia is progressing. Baltic Connector and Elering have screened candidates to find qualifying companies and are requesting for tender for the manufacture of the offshore pipeline from four companies and for its installation from five companies. The companies must submit an indicative tender by the beginning of September of this year.
”Our procurement and project organisation has done a great job, and both the public procurement and the entire project are progressing on schedule. The construction work for the pipeline will start in spring 2018, and the completed pipeline will open the Finnish gas market to Europe in 2020,” says Herkko Plit, President and CEO of Baltic Connector.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the project is due to be completed by 2020.
