Koppö Energy Oy, a joint venture company between Prime Green Energy Infrastructure Fund and CPC Finland Oy, has reached a major milestone in the development of the Kristinestad Power-to-X (PtX) plant by awarding the front-end engineering design (“FEED”) agreements to suppliers Andritz, MAN and Wärtsilä as well as technical advisor Ramboll.
The plant to be built in Kristinestad Finland is a leading sustainable energy transition project in Finland. With a capacity of 200 MW, the production facility will convert green electricity into hydrogen and sustainable liquefied synthetic methane using completely emission-free renewable energy sources.
The FEED agreements were awarded after a diligent selection process to OEMs Andritz for the entire hydrogen plant including the electrolyzer provided by HydrogenPro, MAN for the application of its DWE reactor technology for methanation, and Wärtsilä for the liquefaction and storage of the LSM.
Ramboll is mandated for the overall plant FEED and the incorporation of the OEM deliverables.
“With the Kristinestad P2X plant, we are consistently pursuing our investment strategy of combining renewable energy with energy transition projects when it is beneficial for the overall investment,” says Dr Mathias Bimberg, Head of Infrastructure at Prime Capital AG.
“The development project is progressing very well and is taking a big leap forward with FEED agreements now in place and on schedule. We look forward to another fruitful project and collaboration with our proven partners,” says Erik Trast, Managing Director at CPC Finland Oy and Member of The Board at Koppö Energy Oy.
The plant is part of the Koppö Energy Cluster, which includes the parallel development of up to 500 MW of wind and 100 MW of solar power to supply the PtX plant with new green electricity. Earlier this year, the project was awarded the Power-to-X Innovation Award at the Tamarindo Global Wind Investment Awards ceremony.
