Fennovoima’s owners Voimaosakeyhtiö SF and RAOS Voima Oy will propose Esa Härmälä as the new Chairman of Fennovoima’s Board of Directors to the Annual General Meeting convening in March 2017.
Härmälä brings his expertise in energy and climate issues to the company as well as his knowledge of the Finnish society. Härmälä has held leading positions e.g. in the Finnish State Forest Enterprise (Metsähallitus), and the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), and has been the Director-General of the Energy Department at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. He also has extensive knowledge of the EU decision-making process. Härmälä, aged 62, has degree in agronomy.
”I want to be involved in advancing this project, which is important for the whole country. Fennovoima’s power plant will improve Finland’s energy self-sufficiency. Moreover, the emission-free electricity it generates will be crucial in the battle against climate change,” Härmälä states.
The new Chairman will be appointed in Fennovoima’s Annual General Meeting in March. Juhani Pitkäkoski, stepping down from this post, announced earlier this autumn he was no longer to be considered for the post. Pitkäkoski has been the Chairman for three years. Fennovoima and its owners thank Mr. Pitkäkoski for the excellent work he has done for the project.
