MIICS 2012 seminar brings leading international experts in thin film coating to Mikkeli, Finland, on March 14th to 16th, 2012
The international MIICS seminar on thin film coating is held for the sixth time in Mikkeli. MIICS 2012 emphasizes atomic layer deposition (ALD) and roll-to-roll processing. Highlighted fields of industrial applications include solar energy, machine building and electronics.
Coating technology helps to reduce energy consumption and the environmental effects of materials, which makes it increasingly important in various fields of industry. However, the industrial and commercial utilisation of the new technologies requires awareness of the development in the field. MIICS 2012 promotes the utilisation of the technologies by creating a forum for the developers and the users of the technology to meet each other.
MIICS 2012 seminar addresses both the newest technologies in thin film coating as well as its main fields of application. As for the technologies, the emphasis is on ultra thin coatings. One of the discussed technologies is the atomic layer deposition (ALD) and the method of roll-to-roll processing, in which Mikkeli area in Finland represents international top expertise.
In the industrial applications MIICS 2012 highlights solar energy, where collecting the sun's energy is largely based on the coating technology. In machine building, MIICS 2012 discusses coating technology's role in the reduction of both the wearing of components and the energy consumption of equipment. In addition, the seminar gives an insight into the coatings on paper and different plastic films, with industrial applications such as printable electronics and packaging.
The seminar offers presentations from the highest experts of the field from all around the world. Among the most eminent are, for example, the professors Jeon Han from South Korea, Yuji Mihara from Japan and Kenneth Holmberg from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
