Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 26 October 2017: The Islamic DevelopmentBank (IsDB) will announce its plan to launch a major online platform that will be open for innovators around the world. The platform will offer solutions for the benefit of the developing world in 5 focus areas of the Global Sustainable Development Goals: Clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, good health and well-being, quality education and zero hunger.
Senior Advisor to the President of IsDB on Science & Technology, Dr. Hayat Sindi will make the announcement on behalf of the Bank during a presentation at the Cleantech Venture Day in London on 31October 2017, at 3:45 BST.
“We welcome the best corporations in the world to cooperate with us and we will also strive to be an enabler on the deployment of new technologies by offering mentoring and funding. For us it is important to build this bridge and to connect the world to work towards the Sustainable Development Goals,” says Dr. Hayat Sindi.
The new online platform will serve as a connecting ecosystem and will bring togetherpolicy makers, research institutions and private sector companies developing sustainable technologies to work together and bring lasting solutions to the problems of humanity.
Utilizing Science and Technology to address development challenges is one of the core priorities of IsDB.

HAYAT SINDI
Dr. Hayat Sindi (IDB, Member of Scientific Advisory Board at the UN, Founder and President of the i2 Institute, and Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO) is a leading biotechnologist and a champion of science and technology in the Middle East. At a young age Hayat convinced her family to allow her to travel alone to England to pursue her higher education, a rare permission for a young Saudi woman. She went on to earn a degree in pharmacology with honors from King’s College London in 1995 and five years later became the first woman from the Gulf to obtain a PhD in biotechnology from Cambridge.
Sindi is a co-founder of Diagnostics For All which creates innovative, inexpensive, point-of-care diagnostic devices for people in impoverished regions and a founder of i2, the Institute for imagination and Ingenuity, to encourage innovation among young people.
Along with her scientific activities in 2013 Sindi was one of the first 30 women to be appointed to the Saudi Arabia’s highest consultative body, the Shura Council, and is one of 25 global experts selected by United Nations to be a member of the UN Scientific Advisory Board which will provide advice to the UN’s leadership on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development. Sindi is also a Goodwill Ambassador for Sciences at UNESCO and was named by Forbes the second most powerful Arab women in kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Early last year 2016 she was appointed by the UN secretary in the Ten Members group to support the technological facilitation mechanism (TFM) for Sustainable Development Goals.
