Forssa, Finland, December 10th, 2018 – A Finnish start-up company Jospak Oy announced today that its board-based tray packaging was named as a winner of WorldStar 2019 Award. Jospak is the innovator of a sustainable food packaging solution that contains up to 85 % less plastic than a regular plastic alternative. The WorldStar Competition is one of the major events of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and is the pre-eminent international award in packaging organised since 1970. Jospak Oy is proud to be recognized as a superior in its category.
WorldStar Awards are based on the judges' consensus that a packaging is superior in its category and market and better in its class in execution or innovation by comparison to others. The judging panel consists of country representatives from WPO and one representative from the International Packaging Press Organisation. In October 2018 the panel gathered in Jinan, China to judge 319 packaging projects from 35 countries. The award ceremony will take place in Prague in May 2019.
WorldStars are presented only to those packaging which, having already won recognition in a recognised national or regional competition, are compared by an expert panel of judges to similar packaging from around the world. Earlier this year Jospak was recognized by Scandinavian Packaging Association’s ScanStar 2018 award and therefore was qualified to participate to the WorldStars Award.
Jospak Oy is founded in 2014 to develop and commercialise a new packaging solution for the food industry. The company’s innovation is a high-barrier board-based tray suitable for diverse food products which are currently packed in plastic.
“Receiving the WorldStar Award means recognition for the hard work that we have done to come up with this product. We are positive that this award will make our packaging solutions more known for international markets “, states Ms. Tarja Heikkilä, managing director of Jospak.
The Jospak tray consists of a board-based tray and a separate multi-layer barrier film. The tray is hermetically sealed with lidding film, which makes the tray suitable for modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). It is compatible with existing automatic packaging process in the food industry. After use, the consumer can peel away the inner film liner and dispose the materials in the dedicated waste streams or recycle as such.
Jospak’s board-based food tray provides a large printable surface which enables better means for brand and product messaging, standing out from the competition, and shelf visibility. It also helps in avoiding the use of the additional stickers and paperboard sleeves and therefore reduces packaging materials and related costs overall.
