World's First Ice Carousel Festival in Finland – Over 1.000.000 kilos of ice will be moved on the Lake Lohja
Lohja, a Finnish city known for it’s Emojistreet, will host the world’s first Ice Carousel Festival and Ice Carousel Championships on the 23rd and 24th of February 2018.
Last winter, writer and inventor Janne Käpylehto built worlds biggest ice carousel and the international visibility was unprecedented. Now the project rises to new dimensions when the City of Lohja is organizing a unique Ice Carousel Festival that is held by the Lake Lohja, in Aurlahti, on the 23rd and 24th of February 2018. The festival will include many ice carousels, featuring ice mechanics, light and sound related sculptures. Children will also have their own ice carousel with animals made out of ice.
On the second day of the festival are the first ever Ice Carousel World Championships, with 4 teams competing who builds the most interesting and funniest carousel. The jury contains, among others, the most famous Finn in Russia, Ville Haapasalo, sculptor and interior design architect Stefan Lindfors, and journalist-producer Katja Ståhl.
The event is free of charge and will feature a lot of acitvities, such as reindeer rides, skating and street food. Lohja prepares up to 20,000 visitors. International media will also be present. The event will be arranged by City of Lohja, with the help of Käpylehto and an extensive network of partners.
Janne Käpylehto’s Ice Carousel project has been seen now by more than 250 million people worldwide.
Lohja is a fun lake city in the Southern part of Finland, only 40 minutes from the capital of Helsinki and the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
