TRIP TO THE SOURCE OF THE GREEN GOLD
At 9.45 Meet with the Guide at the Media Centre Info Desk.
Transfer 20 minutes to Stora Enso Logging site. (Please wear proper shoes)
Finnish people have been skiing in forests for thousands of years - but forests are the base of Finnish wellbeing too.
Welcome to visit Stora Enso’s logging site and see where the raw material for many of our everyday products comes from. You can see Ponsse’s spectacular forest harvester at work, and enjoy a cup of coffee and sausage prepared on the traditional way by the campfire.
In Finland, we plant millions of trees every year, and – with a little help from mother earth – they eventually grow up and become this fantastic raw material for paper, board, biomaterials and wood products.
The forests are our ‘green gold’ and one of the solutions tackling climate change. The company Stora Enso is convinced that everything that’s made with fossile-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow.
At 11.15 Back at the Media Centre
Price 26,00 € / person

WELCOME TO THE GRUMP’S FOREST STAND!
Are you looking for old school skiing atmosphere in Lahti? If so, the Grump’s forest stand is the place for you. It is located a little outside of the main stadium area yet within an easy reach, and provides excellent viewing of cross-country competitions. The legendary Anssi Kukkonen gives a running commentary of events on the track, and the Grump himself generously offers you advice on the “correct” approach to winter sports – including how to take a win and how to carry a loss. Well-known skiing heroes from years past and modern rock’n roll celebrities also join the proceedings. You can enjoy your coffee by the campfire and take in good old country atmosphere. A felt restaurant with a license caters to your food and drink needs.
MEET THE GRUMP
The fictional character the Grump created by author Tuomas Kyrö is the most famous literary brand in Finland. The character has made his way to the hearts of the Finnish people in the form of books, radio and theater plays as well as a film.
The Grump is a stubborn but lovable 80-year-old man. He is set in his old ways – an old grump who thinks everything was better in the old days. The world changes but the Grump doesn’t.
The character is universal. The Grump can be found in everyone’s family, in one’s grandparents’ generation, even in oneself. Life experience and life philosophy create the strength and appeal of the character. The Grump reaches a wide audience; he appeals to the generations approaching his own age as well as twenty-somethings looking at life with irony.
The Grump is a great fan of sports. He thinks winter sports is the most important pointless thing in the world. That’s why he has his own forest stand in the Lahti2017 Championships.
