MM Group holds the position of an Official Sponsor of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship to be organized in Finland. The Ice Hockey World Championship will be played in Tampere and Helsinki on May 13 – 29, 2022.
Products made from MM Group’s Finnish subsidiary MM Kotkamills’ easily recyclable food service board as well as recycling stations for the used tableware will be found in the arenas and in the Official Fan Zones throughout the 2022 IIHF WM. The aim is to make recycling as easy as possible.
“Sustainability is an inherent value shared at this event. This opportunity to participate as a responsible partner offers us the chance to enhance the agenda of sustainability at sporting events and to advise spectators how to make events even more responsible. We are pleased that the event organisers have wanted to replace the traditional food service products with new, eco-friendly alternatives,” says Ari Tanninen, Business Unit Director, Foodservice & Cupstock, MM Board & Paper.
The International Ice Hockey Federation has created sustainability guidelines for its Championships and is glad that the 2022 IIHF WM has found such a strong partner for sustainability initiatives.
“We have built the 2022 IIHF WM purposefully and step-by-step to be more sustainable. To have MM Group as an Official Sponsor for the 2022 IIHF WM is an opportunity to take the event’s eco-friendliness and sustainability to a new level. This will also make it more visible to spectators as the MM Group’s personnel will form MM Sustainability Team to advise fans in recycling. This partnership is a welcomed step towards decreasing the footprint of the 2022 IIHF WM and significantly reducing the amount of plastic waste,” says Heikki Hietanen, the General Secretary of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
The responsibility concept and actions planned for the 2022 IIHF WM have also impressed MM Group.
“It is precisely these kinds of events that MM Group want to support through our responsible partnership programme. Responsibility is one of our core values, and we expect it from our partners as well. Building an ecologically more sustainable operating culture is always based on collaboration, and I am pleased that several companies and the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship team have joined forces to advance environmental sustainability,” praises Saila Kettunen, Vice President, Sustainability and Communications at MM Kotkamills.
The MM Sustainability Team representatives can be met at the event festival in Tripla, Helsinki on November 4th, 2021 at 10-19.
