At Ylläs in Finnish Lapland aurora season has started very well. Already in September there was over 10 aurora nights. At Ylläs they take auroras seriously. The street lights will be turned off in Ylläs every evening at 10 p.m. starting 1.10.2014 until 13.2.2015. This will make it easier for you to see the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights can be seen in the northern part of the sky late in the evening, when the sky is clear. On Northern Lights storm night you can see those in every direction. Along with Northern Lights, the stars, moon and snow illuminate the nights. Turning lights off will also help to reduce our Carbon Footprint in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.
In Ylläs You can find various Northern Light activities, like snow shoeing, reindeer sledging, ice swimming from the village Sauna or floating with dry suites under the Northern.
Local aurora photographer Markus Kiili is exited of coming night. -"It have been wonderful autumn. I have spent almost a half of the nights outdoors photographing. I’m really looking forward next night. On aurora storm nights you can see auroras every direction and you can get different kind of aurora landscape photos than on normal nights."
Mr. Kiili says that there is nothing more beautiful than Northern Lights. - "Even I see auroras at least every week, they are still magical, because they are always different."
