On 4 January 2021, Janne Sokajärvi will begin as Jospak’s new Managing Director. The company’s objective is to stabilise its position as a trusted provider of ecological packaging materials for the international food industry. The current Managing Director, Tarja Heikkilä, will continue as Sales and Marketing Director.
The packaging industry is facing global pressures to reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging. Jospak has identified a considerable need for rapid growth both domestically and internationally. Competition is tightening and intensifying, specifically in the area of alternative packaging materials that Jospak offers. Jospak’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jari Stenberg is very pleased about recruiting Sokajärvi:
“The market is being divided now. This is exactly the right moment to increase the company’s capabilities for international growth and expand our group of top experts.”
Internationalisation strategy and the role that Jospak’s own technology development will play in it are two key tasks for Sokajärvi. He has previously worked as Logistics and Procurement Manager at Wihuri Oy and Tuko Logistics Osk. Sokajärvi elaborates on his reasons for joining Jospak:
“As I became acquainted with Jospak’s innovative product solutions and future growth plans within the global food industry, I decided this is a success story that I want to be part of. Increased recycling and reducing the use of plastic are global megatrends and Jospak aims to have a key role in these developments within its own segment. Currently, Jospak employs pioneers and professionals of the industry and I am proud to take up steering the company on a path of strong growth.”
Jospak has grown considerably over the previous years, as the company’s own product and technology development has enabled constantly more efficient operations. In 2020, exports comprised over 90% of sales and the objective for 2021 is to grow both in Finland and internationally. Thanks to the packaging innovation developed by Jospak, the cardboard trays used by the food industry only need to be coated with a thin plastic film. The tray reduces the need for plastic by 85% compared with packaging of a similar size and it is compatible with the current food industry production lines.
