What will the county council members get to make decisions on, and how will their decisions affect students and young people? We will be looking for answers to these and many other questions in the ‘What will students’ Uusimaa be like in 2020?’ seminar held at 5 pm–7 pm on 31 May and organised by the World Student Capital Network of the student unions of the Capital Region.
The seminar is held at 5 pm–7 pm on Thursday 31 May in the Helia auditorium of the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Pasila, at Ratapihantie 13. The event is free and the premises accessible.
The seminar is aimed especially at young people and students under 35 years of age from Uusimaa who are interested in the county elections and political influencing. Decision-makers and representatives of the media are welcome to come and follow the event.
In the seminar, specialists from the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council’s ‘Uusimaa 2019’ project will shed some light on the decision-making structures and resident participation of the future county as well as the effects they will have on the planning, traffic planning, environmental protection, housing production and mental health services for young people in the Uusimaa region.
World Student Capital network
The World Student Capital network (WSC) conducts research, communicates and influences in order to create the best student metropolis in the world. The WSC network consists of the student unions of the higher education institutions in the Capital Region, together representing almost 100,000 students. The network envisions a Helsinki region that is becoming more compact and that responds to its strong population growth with planning that goes beyond municipal borders. This will help guarantee sufficient and affordable housing production as well as sustainable and functional traffic planning. The WSC network also demands actions to promote the health and functioning of young people. The network seeks the expansion of the free contraception programme for people under 25 years of age to cover all of Uusimaa. In addition to this, the network wants to open discussion on improving access to psychotherapy for people under 29 years of age, so that individuals would get the help they need and the society would get better functioning young people.
