Finnish Industrial Design Archives FIDA opened their ’Success Stories of Design’ web exhibition on Tuesday the 20th of March 2012. The exhibition shows products that are familiar to all Finns as well as share the design process and designers behind them. The web exhibition is compiled using the materials of the Finnish Industrial Design Archives FIDA and the Central Archives for Finnish Business Records (Elka). It is a tribute to Finnish top-quality industrial design. The goal of the exhibition is to bring out the importance of design and the contribution of the designers in the creation of a successful product.
A successful design is an essential part of the success of many products. Creating a successful product, there is a demanding product development process that requires the involvement of various experts. The designer compiles the economical, technical and operational requirements. that are sometimes even in contradiction with each others.
Often this work made by the designers remains invisible from the general public, because all we see is the finished product. The idea for the ’Success Stories of Design’ web exhibition is to make visible the design process and designers, says FIDA’s Information Services Secretary Sari Muinonen.
Access to ’Success Stories of Design’ web exhibition is through FIDA’s web site www.elka.fi/fida. FIDA’s Information Services Secretary Sari Muinonen has planned the content of the exhibition and advertising agency Aalto Ltd in Mikkeli is responsible for the graphical design and the technical implementation.

Finnish Industrial Design Archives (FIDA) began its operations in 2010 with strong support of the highly respected Finnish industrialist Krister Ahlström and Industrial Designer Jorma ”Muumi” Pitkonen. FIDA organises and catalogues the materials related to industrial design and stores them permanently in archive-quality storage media and facilities. Despite of the importance of industrial design to the Finnish culture and economics, no other organisation before FIDA has systematically collected this type of material on Finnish design history, which can be used by researchers and educational organisations. FIDA’s pivotal goal is to promote research on industrial and user-centric design and make the material available to everyone interested in design by e.g. web services and digitising documents and objects.
Finnish Industrial Design Archives (FIDA) operates in Mikkeli Finland, in conjunction with the Central Archives for Finnish Business Records Elka. Elka secures the preservation of historical information and traditions related to Finnish business life. FIDA and Elka are part of Digitalmikkeli cluster, which is coordinated by Miktech Ltd. www.digitalmikkeli.fi
