Pyhä Ski Resort together with Escape Room Helsinki are producing a unique experience that transforms the ski resort into a giant escape room for two weeks in the spring of 2018. The story is based on the local legend of Huttu-Ukko, the guardian of the fell, and solving the mystery will take players all around the ski resort on skis.
The world has seen escape room experiences outdoors before, but this is the first time that the experience takes place on fell landscapes and is combined with skiing. The name of the game is The Lost Spell, and the catch is to save the Pyhä fell from the evil plans of Pakkasnoita, the Frost Witch. The only way to save the fell is to find Huttu-Ukko’s lost spell. The story of Pyhä’s escape room experience is completely new and original, and it is written together with Escape Room Helsinki.
“The direct translation to Pyhä is sacred, and the name alone gets your imagination racing. When a local legend is brought to the storyline the players are hooked immediately. This collaboration has had certain magic from the start. It was impossible to say no to this”, says Yvonne Karsten, the co-founder of Escape Room Helsinki.
Escape Pyhä is a part of Pyhä Ski Resort’s plan to develop the slope experience and provide skiers and snowboarders with new adventures around the resort. In addition the ski resort is developing the top experience to attract also pedestrians to seek adventure and not only skiers. In Finland Pyhä is known for excellent off-piste areas and the resort is focusing to make free skiing more accessible for the beginners. Pyhä was awarded for Ski Resort of the Year 2017 in Finland.
“We have been developing the distinctive spirit of Pyhä for several years and it’s nice to see that it has not gone unnoticed”, says Reino Tikkanen, the director of marketing and digital business development in Pyhä Ski Resort.
“Pyhä fell with the surrounding national park might be big physically, but the ski resort itself is quite a small and agile operator in Lapland. I see that as an advantage, because we can easily try new service concepts that bigger resorts can’t necessarily be able to provide profitably”, Tikkanen continues.
Escape Pyhä takes place on the slopes of Pyhä from the 7th of April until the 22nd of April 2018. Escape Pyhä adventure will cost 10 € per player and the player will need to have a valid ski pass as well. Players can start the game on every 15 minutes, and one group can fit 2–5 players. The adventure will take about 2–3 hours. Escape Pyhä is well suitable for bigger groups as well, such as companies and school classes.
The ongoing skiing season in Pyhä Ski Resort started on 16th of November 2017 and the slopes will be open until the beginning of May 2018.
