GrainSense live device presentation on the Borgeby Field days, June 27-28, 2018

  • GrainSense sales has started in Sweden
  • First tens of devices on the market
  • Invitation to live device presentation with updates and new features on the Borgeby Field days, June 27 at 10 am in the seminar tent with CEO Edvard Krogius

GrainSense, Finnish agritech start-up, which has developed the world’s first truly hand-held device for grain protein measurement, will be on the Borgeby Field days, June 27-28, 2018. Sales has started on the Swedish market, already. So far, first tens of devices has been delivered to customers and the first received feed back is very positive. GrainSense invites to live device presentation on the Borgeby Field days, June 27, 2018, at 10 am in the seminar tent, accompanied with distribution partner Gullviks and its sales force and customers who will share their experiences with the audience.

During the device presentation, GrainSense will release the following news regarding the application and the digital service platform as well as the calibrations of grain species:

  • Rapeseed will be included as a species and may be downloaded to the GrainSense application as of mid July when harvest starts. This is the fith species following wheat, rye, barley and oats.
  • There will be an iOS application available, starting around the Borgeby Field days, that will have the same benefits like the existing Android version.
  • A web dashboard for desktop use will be showcased that enables farmers to work with measured data and further analysis with related tools. Final release is expected for early autumn 2018.
  • A 3rd party integration support (Rest API) for importing GrainSense data into external system has been released. This offers collected data by GrainSense devices to individual solutions.

After the device presentation, the seminar audience and the Borgeby Field days visitors are very welcome to visit GrainSense at distribution partner Gullviks, tent A111. Gullviks will release its offer for the Borgeby Field days visitors.

Affordable by individual farmers

GrainSense has after a long development phase, launched the product, and has now sold more than one hundred grain quality measurement devices in the Swedish, Finnish and Baltic markets.

“Wherever the GrainSense device and solution has been introduced, we have seen exceptionally strong interest in the device”, says Edvard Krogius, CEO of GrainSense. “The feedback from customers is overwhelming and we are very busy attending events, field days, and conferences in Northern Europe presenting the device through out the summer, Krogius continues.

GrainSense is the first grain quality measurement device that is affordable and field durable to be owned and used by farmers. The international end-user sales price is 3.900 eur (tax 0%), including the device, a carry bag, a measure cup, cap and 1 year warranty. A personal user account is needed for the use of the device; 250 eur/year (tax 0%), includes 4 grain species (initially available are wheat, barley, oats and rye, rapeseed will follow), updates and calibrations, data storage, and the possibility to share the measurement results.

Big interest among the farming community

The GrainSense solution has been developed in close collaboration with individual farmers and farming organizations. The feedback from farmers has confirmed that currently there are no suitable tools available to support farm-level decision-making in order to manage and optimize the protein content of crops.

Bringing the grain quality measurement practice to the farm level

The GrainSense hand-held device measures the protein, moisture, oil, and carbohydrate content of cereals and other crops – i.e. key determinants of the harvest value and processing cost. The device is battery powered, the measurement time is just a few seconds, and it requires only a few grains and takes just seconds to make each measurement. The service includes a mobile application with GPS positioning and cloud connection, which supports a suite of value-added services for improving productivity and profitability.

Laboratory accuracy from field in seconds

For the first time, farmers, seed producers, and plant breeders will be able to rapidly measure the key parameters of their crops in the field (even before harvesting) and make decisions that can significantly improve their productivity and profitability. The device will also enable meat producers to control and adjust the protein content of feed in real time, which can have a major impact on profitability.

The unique features of GrainSense are:

  • It is 5 times smaller than closest alternatives and battery-powered, and therefore convenient to use in field conditions.
  • It is at least 3 times less expensive than closest alternatives.
  • It takes just 30 seconds to make a measurement, including sample loading and the samples do not need to be grinded.
  • It is the only device that can be used before harvest.
  • Anyone can use it without special training.
  • It will include the most comprehensive package of value-added software services providing actionable insights instead of plain data.
  • It has a potential payback time shorter than one harvesting season.
