Winter is just around the corner, and it is time to introduce the intelligent road Aurora!
The Finnish Transport Agency is pleased to invite you to celebrate the completion of the intelligent road Aurora on Tuesday 7th November 2017 14:00–17:15. The ceremony will take place in Kiela-building, in the parish village of Muonio. The address is Kilpisjärventie 13, 99300 Muonio.
The Aurora project comprises a section of Main Road 21, stretching about ten kilometres northward from the Pahtonen rest area that has been fitted with intelligent instrumentation technology. The road section promotes wide-ranging development of both automated driving and transport, and future infrastructure, while especially utilising Arctic and Nordic conditions and know-how. The aims of the Aurora project are to promote automated road transport, to find new intelligent solutions for dealing with the road maintenance backlog and winter maintenance, and to increase the fluidity and safety of heavy-duty traffic.
At the ceremony, the celebratory speakers include: Terje-Moe Gustavsen, Director-General of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration; Steve Phillips, Secretary-General of the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR); Mikko Kärnä, Member of the Finnish Parliament; Lasse Peltonen, Mayor of Muonio; Antti Vehviläinen, Director-General of the Finnish Transport Agency; and Reija Viinanen, Director of Aurora Collaboration.
Aurora Project Manager Alina Koskela digs into the questions of how the road has been instrumented, what data is produced by the road and instruments, and how we can use this data.
The language of the ceremony is English.
