EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art’s new collection display is ready to be fully opened to the public. The display had been realised in three stages. With the completion of the last, third stage, the entire display will now be open to the public from 18 November 2015. The new display is the largest single project EMMA has undertaken since its inauguration.

Touch, the Saastamoinen Foundation Collection Exhibition, displays some 150 works ranging from media art and sculpture to installations. With the central theme of humanity, the exhibition’s latest new segment includes works by Sasha Huber, Stina Saaristo and Henry-Wuorila-Stenberg as well as a work by Markus Kåhre completed on special commission for the occasion by EMMA.

The third section of Touch, “Human and Power”, will highlight the idea of the human being as a social actor who is part of a community, global power structures and ecosystems. Power relations and the mechanisms of power, as well as values, morality and beliefs, form the thematic core; they determine the way individuals exist in relation to other human beings, and other species. The section discusses the ubiquity of power. Who uses power and how? The third and final section of the exhibition is curated by senior curator Henna Paunu.

To coincide with the opening of the final section of the collection display, the exhibition publication Touch will also be released, introducing the exhibition from a number of different angles.  Throughout the exhibition building process, the audience has been able to follow the preparation project via EMMA’s website and on its blog The Change . In this blog, the museum staff have talked about their roles and the different processes involved in building the display. A similar theme of multiple voices and perspectives is also present in the publication. One of the perspectives is that of five-year-old Roosa, who helped prepare the storycrafting programme and also contributed to the selection of works.

The artists featured in the third section of the exhibition are: Eino Ahonen, Kari Cavén, Ina Colliander, Erno Enkenberg, Petri Eskelinen, Radoslaw Gryta, João Maria Gusmão & Pedro Paiva, Kaisaleena Halinen, Tiina Heiska, Sasha Huber, Martti Jämsä, Kaarina Kaikkonen, Ismo Kajander, Anne Koskinen, Markus Kåhre, Pe Lang & Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri, Maija Luutonen, Jarmo Mäkilä, Jaakko Niemelä, Inka Nieminen, Nelli Palomäki, Matti Saanio, Stiina Saaristo, Minna Suoniemi and Henry Wuorila-Stenberg.
