Baltic Connector Oy has signed agreements for the manufacture of pipes and dust-liquid separators, which will enable the project to advance as scheduled.
The company has concluded an agreement with Corinth Pipeworks for the manufacture of gas pipes. The pipe procurement covers the onshore part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline, with a length of 20 km. The pipe will be delivered in spring 2018, concurrent with the beginning of the construction work for the onshore pipeline in the Siuntio-Inkoo area.
Moreover, Baltic Connector has made an agreement for the manufacture of a dust-liquid separator procured for the compressor station. Natural gas will travel along the pipeline to the compressor station, where it will pass through the dust-liquid separator regardless of the flow direction. The dust-liquid separator removes any liquid or solid impurities that may be in the gas. The agreement has been made with HEAT wärmetechnische Anlagen Ges.m.b.H., an Austrian supplier. The dust-liquid separator is one of the devices that must be procured for the compressor station. Devices will be installed in the compressor station in 2018 and 2019, and they will be commissioned at the end of 2019.
"It is important for the project that the purchases proceed as scheduled. Now that an expropriation permit has been obtained and pipes will be manufactured, construction work can begin on the onshore section of the pipeline in spring 2018. Purchasing devices for the compressor station will enable the devices to be installed in 2018 and 2019," states Baltic Connector Oy's Project Director, Tom Främling.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the project is due to be completed by 2020.
