On 4 May 2018, Baltic Connector Oy signed a contract with Louhintahiekka Oy for the construction and installation work of the Siuntio–Inkoo onshore pipeline. The work covered by the contract agreement will begin in May 2018. The initial phase includes inspections, building of installation roads and excavation of rock areas.
"This contract agreement is significant in that it initiates the actual construction work of the onshore section of the pipeline. We are guided by environmental and safety related matters in everything we do. We take care of good cooperation with contractors, stakeholders and landowners," says Baltic Connector's Project Director, Tom Främling.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the Balticconnector gas pipeline is due to be completed by 2020.
