Construction work at Baltic Connector's compressor station will start with an initial worksite inspection in Inkoo on 12 February 2018. The construction work in the area will be done by Louhintahiekka Oy, the company Baltic Connector has signed a contract with for excavation and zone work. The initial phase will consist of excavation and earthworks. Blasting work will start towards the end of February and will take around 3 months. A water and drain pipe will be built during the zone work that will connect the future compressor station to the municipal system. The zone work will be completed in June.
On 12 February 2018, Baltic Connector made an agreement with EM Pekkinen Oy for the construction of a structural ramp. Once the ramp is completed, a road for worksite traffic can be built in the landfall site, which in turn enables starting the preparatory work required for constructing the offshore pipeline. The ramp construction work will be completed in May.
“It is great that we have managed to get Finnish contractors on board to take the project forward at this stage and that we can start the construction work according to plans. Starting the construction work ensures that we can continue working without disruption, also allowing the next contractors to start their work according to schedule,” says Tom Främling, Project Director.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the Balticconnector gas pipeline is due to be completed by 2020.
