The most interesting new metal industry event, the Engineering Works Trade Fair, together with the international Nordic Welding Expo will focus on robotics, industrial digitalization and 3D printing of metals with the guidance of specialists. The event will showcase machines and equipment as well as look at the future outlook for the industries. The winner of the Plootu Fennica sheet metal product competition as well as Finland’s best young welder and robot welder will also be announced. The Federation of Finnish Technology Industries will also hold the Sheet Metal Days in connection with the trade fair on 15 and 16 March.
“There will be a large number of machines and equipment and a wide range of exhibitors. The almost 250 confirmed exhibitors and the positive buzz have ensured that the event is almost sold out. At the request of the exhibitors and visitors, we have extended the opening hours for Tuesday and Wednesday by one hour,” says Project Manager Mikael Wänskä of Tampere Trade Fairs Ltd.
The NWE information session speakers will focus on, among other things, the design of a welding shop covering everything from product design and modulation to production planning, automation and occupational safety. In the 3D printing theme area, the speakers will talk about the possibilities of 3D printing in, for example, mass production of products. In addition, the Sheet Metal Days organized by the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries will introduce applications and manufacturing methods of sheet metal products. Other related topical matters and the future outlook for the industry will also be discussed.

Investments are the key to success – plenty of machines and equipment on display
“Many metal industry companies have kept their machinery and equipment investments to the minimum since 2008, some even before the financial crisis. Successful companies have had the courage to invest in new machinery, equipment, robotics and automation even during a financially challenging time. The Engineering Works Trade Fair will showcase the widest range of machines and equipment in over ten years, so a trip to Tampere in March will definitely be worth it to support your company’s competitiveness,” says Tommi Peltonen of ST-Koneistus Oy.
Skilled welders and sheet metal product competition winners to be announced at the trade fair
The Finnish Junior Welding Championships will take place on all three days, giving under 21-year-old students and other young welders a chance to compete against each other. The most skilled welder will become Finland’s representative at the Euroskills competition in Gothenburg. The competition winner will be announced on Thursday 17 March. The competition will be organized by the Welding Society of Finland (SHY). A Robot Welding Competition will also be held as part of the trade fair. The aim of the competition is to increase the visibility of robot welding and to showcase it at a practical level during the event. The participants will be assessed based on the competition and the best will be rewarded. The Robot Welding Competition will be organized by SHY in cooperation with Savonia University of Applied Sciences.
The winners of the Plootu Fennica sheet metal product competition will also receive their prizes at the trade fair. The first prize worth EUR 5,000 will be donated by Tampere Trade Fairs Ltd. There are three equal categories for sheet metal products and parts: industrial, design and educational institutions.
