On Thursday 4 September, Mint of Finland will launch EUR 10 and EUR 20 commemorative coins in honour of designer Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914–1999). The commemorative coins, designed by Harri Koskinen, will be released at the company's factory outlet store event in Viinikkala, Vantaa (Suokallionkuja 4), from 2 to 6 p.m. The event is part of the programme of Helsinki Design Week.
Come listen to the thoughts of Pro Finlandia medal winning designer Harri Koskinen on the design of collector coins, and see coins designed by others, rarities from the Mint vaults, and plaster work by collector coin designers.
Programme
2 p.m. The factory outlet store opens.
2–3 p.m. Head designer Erkki Vainio discusses coin design in the plaster collector coin exhibition. The exhibition will be open for the whole event.
3–4 p.m. In the Rarities from the Vault exhibition, Chief Technology Officer Jopi Hukkanen gives a presentation and answers questions on coin minting. The exhibition will be open for the whole event.
4 p.m. Harri Koskinen speaks on the design of the commemorative Ilmari Tapiovaara coin.
6 p.m. The factory outlet store closes.
Celebrated from 4 to 14 September 2014, Helsinki Design Week is the largest design festival in the Nordic countries.
